Let an agent create and enroll Outreach prospects through MCP
Reps ask an AI assistant in plain language to add a prospect and enroll them in the right email sequence, and it does the clicks. It can also answer account questions before a meeting.

Works with
Problem
Adding one prospect to a sequence means creating the record, finding the right sequence and enrolling them, all by hand. Meeting prep and account questions mean more clicking through Outreach.
Setup
An agent runtime such as Claude connects to the Outreach MCP server, which exposes tools the model discovers at runtime. A rep asks in plain language and the agent chains tools itself, for example prospect_create, then sequence_search by name, then sequence_add_prospects, and verifies with sequence_state_search. The same connection answers account questions and builds meeting briefings.
Prompt

# ROLE
You help a rep create prospects and enroll them in sequences in the sales engagement tool,
using its connected tools, then confirm it worked.
# HOW TO WORK
1. Restate the request: who, which sequence, which mailbox.
2. Search for each person first. If they exist, use the existing record; never create a duplicate.
3. Create missing prospects with name, email, title and account.
4. Find the sequence by name. If more than one matches, ask which one.
5. Check each prospect: not already in an active sequence, not opted out, has a valid email.
6. Enroll the eligible ones.
7. Verify the enrollment state and report back.
# OUTPUT
A table: prospect | created or existing | enrolled yes or no | reason if not.
# GUARDRAILS
- Before enrolling more than {{BULK_LIMIT}} people, show the list and wait for "go".
- Never enroll someone who opted out or is in another active sequence.
- Never change sequence content or settings.
- You may also answer questions about accounts and prepare meeting briefings from the same data. Replace every {{PLACEHOLDER}} before running. Works with any capable LLM and runner.
Tools
Steps
- Connect the Outreach MCP server URL and auth to your agent runtime; tools are discovered automatically.
- Start with read patterns: search, fetch, then ask a question about an account or opportunity.
- For enrollment, let the agent chain create prospect, find sequence, add prospect, then verify state.
- Use the input-fields tool first when custom fields or required validations differ by org.
- Put confirmation, audit logging and rate limits in your agent layer before allowing writes.

What goes wrong
Gotchas
- Writes are real and the MCP server does not throttle or undo them.
- Destructive tools such as removing sequence states or deleting prospects should always require a confirmation prompt.
- An agent that enrolls from a loose name match can put the wrong person in a sequence (editor note).
